Thank you to all those who entered last month's story competition.

Unfortunately some very good stories have more than 500 words so are disqualified. Stories already submitted may be resubmitted in future months with some editing to qualify them.

Keep writing your stories about yourself and Emily, Amy, Jasmine and Belle. Remember to keep them short and interesting. Funny is always good too.

Congratulations to Libby aged 14 from Perth, from the Australian Girl Team!

This is her story...

A SCARY NIGHT

Amy and Millie were best friends, on school holidays they were always together. Millie liked Amy’s house because of the vacant block next door. They made a cubby house and they liked to explore and find imaginary animals.

One day Millie suggested that they could sleep in the hut, I don’t know, my parents don’t let me out late said Amy. But they asked her parents and they said the girls could. The girls were so exited they couldn't wait, it was a simple cubby house just four walls and a roof with one window and door, the girls made two beds out of blankets and pillows. The sun was starting to set in the horizon making the sky golden. Amy and Millie had everything they needed, their torch, hot chocolate, and a snack in case they got hungry.

Amy’s dad came and said goodnight to the girls and he said that if they wanted to they could come back to the house and sleep in Amy’s room. The Girls assured him that they were fine, so Amy’s dad left. The girls were so exited What do you want to do? said Amy. Well I want to read my book and then tell ghost stories Said Millie Ok, but Dad said we have to turn the torch out and go to sleep in 45minutes explained Amy. The girls read their books and all too soon their 45minutes was up. We could tell one ghost story said Millie. But Amy didn't like to disobey her father so they turned out their lights and went to sleep.

The girls were almost asleep when they heard a scream that sent shivers down their spine, they were so frightened w-w-what was tha-at? asked Amy maybe its true, maybe there really a ghost that haunts this land Millie said. They were so terrified that they decided to go back to the safety of the house. They carried their blankets and a torch, they were half way to the house when the cry came again, and it sounded like someone calling help. That made the girls bolt into a run. After Amy and Millie were inside and calmed down, Amy’s dad went out to see what the noise was, 10-minutes passed then 20, and the girls were starting to worry. When he finally returned he had a look of amusement in his eyes. You know that Mrs. Henry breeds peacocks he said trying not to laugh.

Well one of her peacocks ran away and something must have scared him Amy’s dad said. But I was sure I heard someone crying for help Millie said, peacocks make a strange sound and it does sound a lot like someone crying Help’, I think he was just as scared of you, as you were of him he replied. The girls soon drifted into sleep and awoke to laugh about it the next day.
