Thank you to all those who entered last month's story competition.
Unfortunately some very good stories have more than 500 words so are disqualified. Stories already submitted may be resubmitted in future months with some editing to qualify them.
Keep writing your stories about yourself and Emily, Amy, Jasmine, Belle and Matilda. Remember to keep them short and interesting. Funny is always good too.
Congratulations to Lauren from South Australia
from the Australian Girl Team!
This is her story...
"BRRRRRR," Hi, Belle here, it's another chilly day in the beautiful town of Victor Harbor. Lauren has me rugged up in my funky comfy outfit. We step out of the warm cozy beautiful house. We are heading to the shops to buy some yummy cookies. As we close the door a huge gust of wind sweeps me off my feet. Lauren catches me, ensuring I don't get dirty leafage on my outfit, and she props me up again.
My scarf, Lauren knitted it for me, blows right off my neck and into a tall nearby tree.
"Oh No!" I cry "my beautiful scarf!"
"It's ok Belle" she tells me "we'll get it back somehow".
We sit there thinking and chatting about what in the world we can do! Lauren talks about how they talked about pulleys in class. Then we get an idea! So we get a big basket from Lauren's mum, we attach a very long and thick rope, for safety. Then we sling one end of the rope over a big branch of the tree that has my scarf in it, with help from Lauren's strong and tall dad. I nervously get in the basket. "OUCH!
This is spikey." I squeal. So we go inside and grab a nice soft fluffy pillow and a blanket, for warmth. We lay them in the basket and Lauren lifts me into it.
"HOLD ON TIGHT!" she yells up to me. Then she starts pulling on her end of the rope. I am carried higher and higher until the scarf is almost in my reach. Then "CREEK" that sound is terrifying because that means that the basket has come loose. I reach for my scarf and grab onto it just as the basket comes out from under me and plummets to the ground. A second ago I was in the secure safety of that basket and now I am holding on for my life in a tree in a gusty winter storm.
"Just hold on Belle!" Lauren yells. "We'll get you down" But…how?
She can't get a ladder. It would be way too rickety in this weather. She can't climb up. That would be too dangerous. She can't call the fire department, they wouldn't come. Wait. "I've got it!" we say in unison. She can't climb up but her brother could. He is basically monkey boy! She rushes inside and comes out with Nathan. By now I am really scared because I am losing my grip on the scarf I so desperately love!
Nathan swings himself up the tall tree and as the scarf comes loose, I start to fall. Then instead of falling all the way to the bottom, Nathan catches me. He swings down again and places me flat on the ground. "Thank you Nathan!" I say.
I am shivering now. So Lauren picks me up and takes me inside. She makes me hot cocoa and wraps me up in a blanket. What an
adventurous day!
