Congratulations to Becci from Western Australia from the Australian Girl Team!

This is her story...

Beyond Brenham Station.

One day, Matilda and Emily were exploring the cattle station. They were walking along the fence line and the long dry grass was rustling every step they took. It was summer and it was very hot, but the girls didn't care. Emily was whacking the ground with a stick to make sure the snakes stayed away.

Matilda stopped suddenly and looked over the wire fence.

"Emily," she said. "Are all those trees a forest?"

"I don't think so." Emily replied, coming back to Matilda's side. "I think it's just a small line of trees in a field or something, it can't be more than a few metres deep."

She started whacking the ground again, and tramped off.

"Maybe we could explore it?" asked Matilda.

Emily turned to face her cousin. "No, Tilda." she said. "It's off the property. We can't go over the fence, we're not allowed to."

"Oh come on, Em. It could be an adventure; don't you want to have an adventure?"

Emily thought about it. "We-ll," she said, staring at the trees. "Alright, but only for a few minutes, then we have to come back."

Matilda was excited as they climbed over the fence. They walked through the trees, looking all around them. Even Emily got excited as they discovered a small creek in the trees.

"I think we should have been out of the trees by now." She said. "But it's deeper than I thought. Maybe we should turn back."

But Matilda looked worried. "Which way is back? "

"I don't know." Emily looked about her. " Uh oh." She said. "I think we're lost."

Matilda started to panic. "It's getting dark!" she said.

" We have to get back. I told we shouldn't have come." said Emily. "We're having the adventure you wanted."

The girls walked around, trying to find their way out. "I think we turn left here." said Matilda. "Or was it right? I don't know."

Emily was looking at the sky, it was turning red and the sun was setting. Suddenly, she slipped, and fell into the creek. "Oh. I want to go home Matilda." She said, as she climbed out on the other side, soaking wet.

"I know. So do I." said Matilda, stepping over the stones to Emily.

They started walking straight ahead. Then Emily spotted something that made her excited. "Look!" she cried. "It's the fence. We're home!" They ran the rest of the way, and climbed over the fence. Not even whacking the ground for snakes, Emily bolted to the house, with Matilda running after her.

They reached the house and went inside. They went and sat in the family room. They started laughing so loud Emily's mum came in and said. "What's so funny?" Emily looked at Matilda, who shook her head.

"Nothing Mum." She said. The girls started giggling again.
